April 9, 2009
If you want to learn a new language, you should be really attentive because it comes easier if your heart and mind is in it. Even if you find it easy at first, do not become overconfident as at some point it will become tougher and you will not be prepared for it. If you aim for speaking Spanish, there are plenty of options for you: several colleges and universities offer Spanish language courses, which they believe, are very advantageous, which it is. Normally, adult classes are arranged for evenings so they can be carried out when most people have finished work for the day. From what I know, schools offer crash courses in different languages during school break, especially during summer.

Some companies also offer crash courses where they teach you to speak Spanish while making sure that you get a job right after you finish their program. In case you do not have any time, many bookshops sell dictionaries, which can also help you learn the language. Lots of self-help books are also available where there are lots of sentences in Spanish with their English translations appearing at the bottom. There is the ever so trusted Internet where you can find loads of free tutorials on Google or yahoo. It’s not just about reading and teaching yourself on how to pronounce the words, although it’s easy since speaking Spanish is more phonetic. But, you can listen using Internet, too and there are webcasts and podcasts available and what’s great is that some sites will allow you to download it, all you have to do is just type your fingers away!
Yet it is far simpler to learn a language if you listen to it so do not depend too much on books as there are plenty of materials for you to listen and watch, like songs, movies and tele-novels. Looking at pictures is a great help, and when you learn a Spanish word, you would ever forget its meaning if you know what it looks like. If you have the financial resources as well as the time, there is no better way to learn a language than to be amidst people who communicate in that language all the time. If you already like their culture and country you should find speaking Spanish an easier task
Just remember never to put too much pressure on your self, as it would only delay your learning process. When one is in a Spanish speaking country, one cannot help but try to copy the accent and way of talking of the natives. Do not be embarrassed when you make mistakes as you are expected to make some howlers but then, you are a beginner trying hard to grasp a language. Learning is a non-stop affair throughout your life and languages can be part of this process so if you treat it as fun, you are likely to at least enjoy yourself while you are studying.
