June 17, 2008
Some of the basic rules: Foreign language courses are way apart from other courses and you should never stall the proceedings. If you drag your feet over any foreign language course, you can be assured of failure where you are required to put in a minimum of 3 hours weekly and 15 minutes on a daily basis. Use additional time whenever possible although you should never spend more than 45 minutes studying the language in one session.

Fork out your whole study material into several manageable units. If you are serious about passing the examination then attend classes regularly. Evaluate your past learning regularly for your own benefit, for example check out the vocabulary. Here are some ideas to make the learning of different sections of a foreign language course simpler.
Grasping the written words: Check out only those words where no conjecture can help or whose meanings can not be surmised. Read a little bit of the language every day, especially the chapters in the textbook.
Start talking: Making mistakes is natural so listen to others in the class and start to speak. You can start practicing the foreign language by talking to your self, talking to others who are in the same class or even with your pet dog or cat.
Putting it down on paper: Practice your writing skills every day until they become more natural.
Request a friend to dictate some small paragraph of the language and then find out how much of it has been written correctly.
Miscellany: Study the foreign language with a positive frame of mind, have pre-set objectives and goals. Know what you are going to get from your studies and how to get them. {1.f you need help get it and do not be afraid to ask questions or ask for help for fear of sounding stupid, or being embarrassed.} 1.Ask questions, get help and never feel awkward to ask for assistance. {2.Get audio tapes of the language and listen to them or make you own tapes and listened to yourself in order to perfect your pronunciation.} 2.To better your pronunciation, the best way is to listen to audio tapes of the language or you could record something yourself and listen. 3.For building your vocabulary, try using flash cards which are made of different colors denoting genders or nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. 4.If you practice studying in groups, you can make good friends with your classmates which would be eager to help you out.
